Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Celta Vigo in Saturday’s La Liga Santander early kick-off clash at the Camp Nou.
It was was the second consecutive draw Barcelona will record after their 1-1 draw away to Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium last Sunday.
Maxi Gomez salvaged a point for Celta Vigo after goals from Lionel Messi, who will lead Argentina’s forward line against Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup, and Luis Suarez had cancelled out Iago Aspas’s opener.
Barcelona began the game dominating possesion and almost scored from their first attack in the seventh minute when Messi’s shot from a superb run could only earn a corner.
In the 20th minute, Barcelona were behind. Iago Aspas tapped home from six yards after Marc-Andre ter Stegen had kept out Maxi Lopez’ close-range shot.The strike was Aspas’ fourth in his last four league appearances against Barca and the sixth the Catalan giants were conceding this season.
But the lead lasted only three minutes as the unbeaten LaLiga leaders rallied back with an equaliser from Messi who slammed home his 14th league goal of the season.
Suarez finished from close range to give Barcelona the lead. The goal moves Suarez into Barcelona’s all-time top ten goalscorers list having scored 127 times.
In the 70th minute, Celta Vigo drew level through Maxi Gomez but Paulinho had a chance to make it 3-2 but he blazed his effort over the bar in the 78th minute.
With five minutes left to play, a defence splitting pass from Suarez found Denis Suarez but his shot was blocked.
