Super Eagles Land In Volgograd, Rohr Confident; Saraki To Attend Clash Vs Iceland

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Volgograd ahead of Friday’s crucial Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D fixture against Iceland.

The  Super Eagles flew from their Essentuki base on Thursday morning and settled in their Hampton-by-Hilton Volgograd Hotel abode a little after 1pm local time (11am Nigerian time), according to a media statement from the Communication department of the Nigerian Football Federation.

Gernot Rohr men lost their opening game 2-0 in Kaliningrad last Saturday and must beat Iceland to stand a chance of reaching the next round.

Rohr insists that he knows what is best for the team and will deploy same on Friday.

“We have watched the game against Croatia again to see our mistakes so that we can correct them. It will be a tough game. We have to be at our best and be more professional with our defending especially from set-pieces,” Rohr was quoted in the statement.

“We have to be fully focused and not lose concentration all through the game. I believe with hard work we can get a good result. In truth, there is no need to add to the pressure we have now. More pressure on the team will not necessarily translate to better results.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, will attend the big match in Volgograd.

Other dignitaries expected to watch the game are the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Russian Federation, His Excellency Professor Steve Davies Ugbah, the Permanent Secretary in the Youth and Sports Ministry, Mr. Olusade Adesola, Nigeria’s IOC Member Habu Ahmed Gumel and a full complement of the NFF Executive Committee led by the President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

Funny coach, why always working ONLY on defense, what about the attacking role? or are we defending to reduce the goals we conceded @ initial stages? the Iceland are very tall(1.9 per average height) no matter how u defend, our team is weak in set piece(imagine modric jumping ahead of our defenders) and also playing against tall players, working on defense only without solid attacking to draw some of their players back(weakness against the 1.65 height crot)will do us more harm than good while we have some of our players who promise to die if we fails to deliver..Are they really saying the truth?

Always seeing ur mistakes..hope the is not the exact excuse u help to give after the disgrace of this world cup. U are condemned to win….you there not lose against Iceland and give us ur normal prepared losers speech “we have seen our mistake…we hope to correct at the next world cup”
