Super Eagles Vs Poland, Serbia: Ideye, Ighalo To Return; Nwakaeme, Nwakali Dropped

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is set to hand Malaga striker Brown Ideye a recall to the Nigeria senior national team ahead of next month’s international friendly matches against Poland and Serbia, Completesportsnigeria.com has gathered from a top official.

Ideye last featured for the Super Eagles in their first Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying game against Zambia in Ndola in 2016 which Nigeria won 2-1.

Since joining Malaga in January, the 29-year-old has scored once in four La Liga Santander games.

CSN also gathered from that the trio of Chidebere Nwakali of Aberdeen, Victor Osimhen of Wolfsburg and Hapoel Beer-Sheva forward Anthony Nwakaeme have been excluded from the squad to face Poland and Serbia.

The Super Eagles, drawn against Argentina, Croatia, and Iceland in Group D of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, will face Poland in Warsaw on the 23rd of March and four days later take on Serbia in London.

According to CSN sources, Elderson Echiejile, Odion Ighalo, Ogenyi Onazi and Mikel Agu who missed the last games against Algeria and Argentina due to injuries as well Victor Moses are expected to be named in the 25-man squad for the friendlies.

“No major surprises in the team list actually, but it’s more likely Ideye returns but Nwakeame won’t be in the squad,” one of the sources revealed.

“The first team players who missed the last two games in November will be included.”

Rohr is expected to announce his squad that will prosecute the games before Friday.

Invited players are expected to arrive in Poland from 19th March for the friendlies.

  • No elderson pls,we no longer need his services

    • Barth 4 years ago

Samuel kalu, Joel Obi and Okechukwu (former U-23 captain) should be included in the list to fortify our midfield. That Okechukwu guy has all it takes to be in eagles midfield.

  • I hope Joel Obi will not be overlooked by G. Rohr. This guy needs to be invited to make our midfield solid and competitive. Pls look in the direction of this creative midfielder.

  • vincent Onuigwe 4 years ago

Please Rohr ,if you are reading this CNS , please in cloud Joel Obi in your list ,that guy is a player to watch

  • Ayphillydegreat 4 years ago

Joel Obi from reliable sources will be included in the squad. He definitely deserve to be in the squad. He’s one of our best players in Europe this season

  • Austin 4 years ago

Joel obi should be included. Mikel agu has never impressed me in the super eagles thus far. I’ll prefer idowu to be part of the defensive midfield and left wing back as a substitute as he is a versatile player. This I saw in the last Argentina friendly.

Pls Rohr should invite Joel the “jewel” obi of torino as well as Samuel Kalu of kAA gent of Belgium.
No “Jewel” obi no acceptance of the list o.
And someone should tell Rohr that we don’t need Mikel agu in that list o.
He has not been impressive at all, besides, he just returned back from injury last Friday hence, he is not yet fit.

Pls we need joel in dat mildfield to make it more compactable.

There are a couple of players the coach should consider. Please Complete Sports use your reach to bring these two players before the coach.
Faenedo Adi, 9f Timberscombe MLS. He is the meanest strongest no 9 in the MLS. He is strong and quick. We definitely need him..
Also Otigba kenneth…another solid defender who turned opportunity to play for Hungary because of his interest to play for Nigeria.

Rohr should please give them a trial …just like Brian Idowu, that is proving to be a solid joker for us

The list is definitely incomplete without Joel Ibo. He was one of Nigeria’s best players before he was blighted by injury. Now that the evil days are over,it will amount to a great disservice to the national team if Rohr excludes him. And what is Rohr’s obsession with Mikel Agu all about? He is a minus in the team as far as I’m concerned.

We need Joel obi in the national team in order to fortify the midfield. Without a strong midfield it will be difficult to beat Croatia.

  • Linus ISHIEJE 4 years ago

I dnt want to see Echiajile on that list Rorh should fine another to feel the gap

  • @ubah at least show some respect to the journalist, all journalist has there sources were they get information’s from.

  • Pls Joel obi should be the list ok we need him he was one of Nigeria best player in Europe before he got injured.him too good Abeg roha him better pass onazi mikel Agu John ogu. Na mikel obi class him day Abeg coach roha ooo

Brown is most welcome to balance experience with youth. Nigeria cannot go to the World Cup without Joel Obi, if he’s fit. Victor Osimhen is a must as well. Unfortunately Rohr keeps on inviting players who he doesn’t even try out. It must be frustrating for Uche Agbo to sit on the bench all the time, and Tony Nwakaeme to have only 45 minutes and then be dropped.

  • The omission of Nwaekeme should be no surprise to anyone. Not sure any coach can invite him a 2nd time after the short-1, nearly invisible display he put up against Algeria.

And for Pete’s sake, how did Chidiebere even get into the initially squad? He’s not SE material for now. I’m sure is brother agent smuggled him in. His brother Kelechi is even rated better than him. Of that 2015 U17, there are several players that should be invited before him. He won’t even rank number 15 in that team for me. So, CSN, please he being left out is no news.

People should stop clamouring for Joel Obi, biko. This is becoming all hype. One thing I like about Rohr is that he’s not just intelligent, he’s shrewd too. Quietly smart and strategic. I trust his decisions most of the time. I just hope the NFF give him a free hand and not allow powerful agents to continue to dictate players.

For Joel Obi, an injury-prone player is a liability. And something tells me all this hype will soon dissipate. Na so everybody they hail Nwaekeme that time until all man eye clear with that Algeria game and they all shut up. I think there are better options than him in the current squad. Let me make a confident prediction to you all: JOEL OBI WILL NOT MAKE THE RUSSIA 2018 SQUAD. You can take that to the bank.

Oga Rohr, please and please, start Ebuehi in place of Abdullahi this time. Also start Idowu and Uzoho. For the rest postions, it’s left to you.

I have no idea where the hype for Nwakaeme came from. I rated Olarenwaju Kayode far ahead of him. Top talents don’t play in Israel. As for Obi we need him in the team. The fact that he’s ever present for Torino this season is a testament to his qualities. Four goals from a deep lying playmaking position is not easy. And I believe he also had about four assists. With the Exception of Mikel and Ndidi, Obi is the next top midfielder we have at the moment. Take it or leave it

    My eagles first eleven,goalkeeper: uzoho,RB,ebuehi CB,balogun ekong,LB,idowu,Midfielders,Mikel ndidi etebo,STRIKERS,moses ighalo onyekuru

  • ogbeifun eugene 4 years ago

the best is left for the coach to do. osimhen and obi should be given to them, ederson should be ignored for niw

  • Bro Kel your analysis is smooth and readable. We all cannot have same opinion but by present form, Joel Obi is the second best midfielder Nigeria can boast of in Europe this season. He scores and create chances for his team despite from a deeper role. Thanks to God, he’s been playing without injury reoccurrence for a while now. I pray he stay fit till and after the world cup. His qualities is never in doubt. Let us keep praying againt injury for any of our players. I may not be handsome, but if i see a beautiful woman, i will surely appreciate and adore her beauty. Thats is the case of Joel Obi.

  • How i wish Felix Udokhai of Wolfsburg can be convinced to play for the super eagles, that guy is a genius. He scores, assist, defend, attack even at a tender age. It would have been a great achievement in that Left back position. However, Brian Idowu and Ola Aina will try to give their best.

  • what I’m praying for is that all our players should be injuries free

  • Josleck 4 years ago

I think Joel obi deserves to be in the list…….he has been doing well of late, barring any injury he is an invaluable addition to the team

  • Joel obi should be considered& femi martins.

  • Nigerian are too sentimental! Why the clamor for Joel Obi. He is a good player though, but injury might hindered him, then why the need. The coach has his team already. However, Ideye mustn’t be a part of the team.

  • Hope Odianosen 4 years ago

Oga Isaac, Marco Reus of Germany is mor injury prawn dan Joel Obi, yet when ever he is fit, he gets invited by Joachim Lown becos of his vast talent & same is Joel Obi, Joel Obi is tested & trusted & he is far ahead of Agu, Ogu & Onazi, so we need him Oga Isaac.

  • Nicolsen 4 years ago

Pls what is mikel Agu doing in dz team.. after a dismal display against zambia.. he shouldnt be considered.

For joel obi… oooh pls.. we would never move forward if we keep on attaching tribal sentiments.. joel obi had his chances and he failed to impress.. lets give others ample opportunities.

For Tony that guy shld just forget abt SE for now at least he has a Nigerian jersey and pix in his house.

Elderson has no business anymore wt d super eagles.. we need fresh bloods like idowu and aina.

I feel g Rhor has had enough time to rest and engage players like jordan ibe and akpon to play for nigeria. We need a solid line up not d same old click of lacklustre players.

    • Cristen 4 years ago

Seriously u don’t know Joel obi or u have not watched any of his se matches

  • Mikel Agu or whatever your called yourself…pack your bag and live super eagles because your are not the level we need now..

  • @Cristen, what do you expect from a person that wants chuba Akpom ahead of moses simon, bazee, Musa and onyekuru? Forgetting that Akpom was in Arsenal when Wenger bid for onyekuru.if calling Joel obi is backward movement? What will u call….Uche Agbo and Mikel Agu?
