Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU highlights five major talking points from Nigeria’s Super Falcons’ impressive 6-0 win over Equatorial Guinea in their Group B encounter at the African Women’s Nations Cup – AWCON 2018 in Ghana on Saturday.
1. Oshoala Finally Resurgent
After firing blanks in Super Falcons’ first two games against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa and Shepolopolo of Zambia, the reigning African Women’s Footballer of The Year proved her worth by grabbing a hat-trick in the 6-0 win against Equatorial Guinea.
Oshoala was also deservedly named woman of the match in the game.
For a player who was widely criticised, especially for her wastefulness against the Zambians, it is safe to say, she is definitely hit a resurgent form.
2. Ordega, Okobi Showed Class Again
The duo were behind most of the team’s creative moves in the previous game against Zambia and they proved it was no fluke with a repeat performance against Equatorial Guinea.
Ordega who grabbed a goal and an assist in the game, was a thorn in the flesh of the Equatorial Guineans with her direct approach and dribbling runs.
Okobi on her part, worked hard as ever and was almost everywhere on the pitch.

3. Falcons’ Wastefulness Persisted
Despite scoring six goals, the Super Falcons still wasted a number of clear cut opportunities in the game which would have made the scoreline more massivePersist is one key area the handler of the team, Thomas Dennerby needs to work on especially with the competition now in the knockout stages.
4. Impregnable Defence
Another win and another clean sheet. The Onome Ebi’s led defence has done well so far in this tournamen, except for that loss of concentration in the opening game against South Africa which resulted in the Banyana Banyana only goal of the game.
Against Equatorial Guinea, they were efficient again and warded off the threats of the opponents’ attackers, keeping another clean sheet in the process.
5. Falcons Finally Showed Champions’ character
The Super Falcons, no doubt, have truly recovered from that shocking defeat to South Africa in their first game. Though there is still room for improvement, the Super Falcons showed more cohesion and understanding in their game. One can only hope they will get better and better as they advance in the tournament.

I pray they continue to get better. I still don’t believe they ‘very bounced back until after the encounter with Cameroon on Tuesday.
