Super Falcons Now To Face Eq. Guinea In Women’s AFCON Group B As CAF Dismisses Kenya

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will now face Equatorial Guinea, not Kenya, in the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group B, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

CAF’s Appeal Committee upheld Equatorial Guinea FA’s appeal after their spot in the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations was revoked following a protest that their player, Annette Jacky Messomo, who featured in their Women’s AFCON qualifier against Kenya was ineligible to play for them.

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee had barred Equatorial Guinea from featuring in the 2018 Women’s AFCON and admitted Kenya.

And according to a statement issued by CAF’s appeals board, the appeal lodged by the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation was found admissible and that Messomo was eligible to play the game.

“The appeal lodged by the Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol is admissible,” the statement reads.

“The decision no 001-CAI08.09.2018 is overruled.”

“The player Annette Jacky Messomo is eligible to play for the National Team of Equatorial Guinea.”

“The National Team of Equatorial Guinea is reintegrated in the Total African Women’s Cup of Nations 2018.”

With this Nigeria’s Super Falcons will now face Equatorial Guinea on the 24th of November in their final Group B game at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Equatorial guinea is a stronger opponent to the super falcons than Kenya. I hope we’ll be ready to play well when we meet them in the tournament. Equatorial guinea had beaten the super falcons before and may come in confident to play in that group. The Ghanaians are already talking tough as the hosts because they believe that only the Super falcons could stop them from winning the tournament and as a result they are focused on the super falcons. I believe Nigeria will do well.
