Out-of-favour Super Eagles left-back Taye Taiwo has welcomed the imminent appointment of former Juventus and Borrusia Dortmund star, Sunday Oliseh, as Super Eagles head coach.
The Nigeria Football Federation recently announced they were in talks with former Nigeria captain Oliseh to replace the sacked Stephen Keshi.
Oliseh is set to be unveiled this week as Super Eagles coach.
Taiwo, who won bronze with the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations, thumbs up the choice of Oliseh.
“Oliseh is a former international who understands the game and it is nice that the NFF deemed it okay to go with one of our own,” Taiwo told completesportsnigeria.com.
“I’m not saying other capable coaches won’t suit the Eagles but we have to support the NFF on this. I wish Oliseh all the best.”
Speaking on his hopes to play in the national team again, the former Olympique Marseille, AC Milan, Dynamo Kiev and QPR defender said:
“The invitation of players is the prerogative of coaches. I want to play again for Nigeria, I still have the desire but I also want to sort out issues concerning my club football.”
Taiwo’s contract with Turkish side Bursaspor was terminated by mutual consent this year.
Completesportsnigeria.com was informed of offers that came the way of the one-time Gabros FC star, more recently two that came from second division clubs in Turkey which he turned down.
