Taiwo: My Eagles Career Not Over Yet

–Former Marseille defender still wants to play for the national team

Nigeria international Taye Taiwo has told Complete Sports that he is still interested in playing for the Super Eagles despite the country’s inability to qualify for the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The former Olympique Marseille defender said he felt disappointed seeing the senior national team not making it to Equatorial Guinea to defend the title they won in South Africa.

“I am a Nigerian, I have the interest of my country at heart and I will always be happy to play for Nigeria. I have no problem with anybody and I still want to play for Nigeria if I am invited but if I am not invited, there is nothing I can do about it”, says the former Flying Eagles defender
“Personally, I am not happy that Nigeria did not qualify for the African Cup of Nations and the problem started right from the day we lost our home game but I believe we can plan again and reposition our football. We have the talents and as a nation in Africa, we should be seen at the top.

Taiwo who spoke further after leading the Super Eagles players against Westerloo Academy in a novelty match organized by ex-international Dosu Joseph on Tuesday at the MFM playing ground in Lagos, said he is still as strong as ever and will be willing to give his best to the national team if recalled by the Super Eagles coaches.

“Well, I don’t know what people are talking about me but as a Nigerian, I believe I can still contribute to the national team.

Meanwhile, the Westerloo boys defeated the Selected Super Eagles side 4-2 in the match that saw Coach Tunde Disu, Gbenga Ogunbote and many football personalities in attendance.
