Tau Hails Belgium Loan Switch

Brighton star Percy Tau has defended his decision to join Belgian second-tier outfit Union St-Gilloise on a season-long loan deal. The highly-rated 24-year-old forward moved to the Seagulls from South African outfit Mamelodi Sundowns during the summer transfer window for a fee of around £2.8million.

However, Tau’s inability to secure a work permit meant he was offloaded on loan to Union SG, which created a stir because many felt he was too good to play at that level.

But the player is enjoying a good season to date having formed a strong partnership with Youssouf Niakate to help take the team to the top of the table.

And, speaking ahead of South Africa’s African Nations qualifier against Seychelles on Saturday, Tau said: “All is well in Belgium. We are on top at the moment. We have had good performances in the cup and league and I believe that we are beginning to get stronger as a team.

“People will always have opinions on things and they are entitled to that. I am happy with this path I have chosen because I have done it before and things worked out in my favour.

“I once went out on loan to Witbank Spurs (from Mamelodi Sundowns) and things worked out pretty well for me later on.”
