Despite missing the final, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been included in a three-man shortlist for last season’s UEFA Europa League Player of the Season award, UEFA announced via Twitter and their website on Friday.
Ibrahimovic is one of three Manchester United players nominated for the award which will be presented in Monaco on 25 August.
The other United players are Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who both scored in the final as the English club defeated Ajax 2-0 in Sweden.
Zlatan, who is still recovering from a long-term injury and is now technically a free agent, scored five goals and had four assists in 11 games before getting injured in the semi-finals.
Pogba was impressive in United’s midfield all through their run to the final, scoring three goals and assisting once in 15 games from central midfield.
Mkhitaryan scored key goals in almost all the stages of the competition after overcoming a slow start to his United career.
Incidentally, all three players only joined United last season, Pogba for a then world record £89 million, Ibrahimovic on a free transfer.
