He returned to the Milton Keynes-based outfit in 2017 to drive for Toro Rosso in the latter stages of the campaign and he has held a seat alongside Pierre Gasly throughout 2018.

However, it has been a case of contrasting fortunes for the duo with Hartley picking up just four points, while Gasly’s 29 points have earned him a promotion to Red Bull for 2019.

German publication Bild claim Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko and Red Bull team boss Christian Horner have already told Hartley that he won’t be kept on next term, although it is yet to be officially confirmed.

It’s understood that British-Thai driver Alexander Albon is more than likely going to be drafted in as a replacement.
Red Bull have been in contact with Nissan as they attempt to get Albon out of his current deal to drive in Formula E.
