Troost-Ekong: Argentina-Iceland Draw Good For Eagles, We’ll Redeem Ourselves

By Nnamdi Ezekute In Kaliningrad:
Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong has apologised to Nigeria supporters for the team’s defeat to Croatia in their first Group D match at the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Saturday, but assures that advancingto the next round still a possibility, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Eagles lost 2-0 at the Kaliningrad Stadium through own-goal by Oghenekaro Etebo in the 32nd minute and a spot-kick converted by Luka Modric in the 71st minute following Toost-Ekong foul on Mario Mandzuki.
“It was a difficult game,  but now we have to redeem ourselves. So sorry to Nigerians that we lost our first game to Croatia,  but I believe that everything is not lost yet. We need to pick up again,” Ekong told CSN after the match.
On the implication of Argentina’s draw with Iceland on the same opening day of Group D, Ekong said: “I think it works in our favour. We anticipated that before we came here. Now we have to focus on our next game against Iceland and get the desired result there.
“I tell you, we still have good chance in this group, but we must fight for it. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s up to us. It requires extra hard work and that’s what we’ll do.”
Troost- Ekong however refused to talk about about the foul he committed which gifted Croatia their second goal from the results free-kick converted by Luka Modric.
“No comment. Thank you,” he responded tartly.

If only these players could just shut up and focus on the next match and stop making promises that have plastic foundations. Also too much social media use by these players…Rohr might not be a disciplinarian in certain areas.

Mr MMA,please concentrate on the next match, you guys always talking, and to the Coach Mr Red snapper, please bench Mikel in our next match , allow Iwobi to be our playmaker. Mikel is too slow, the guy is too old. He has payed is dues time to hang the boot.

  • No comment to the most important question of all Mr. Ekong: why commit such an elementary foul at such a stage of football particularly in this day and age of VAR, multiple cameras and chances to punish most fouls on the spot!

    You know best.

___WHAT NEXT FOR SUPER EAGLES ___

It is safe to say that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have done their chances of progressing beyond the group stages of this world cup significant harm with the defeat (and the manner of the loss) against Croatia last night.

Even the most loyal of us supporters are now starting to resign to the fact that, in all probability, we will only end up making the numbers at the World Cup this time around.

Troost Ekong – in the article above – suggest that possibilities exist for Nigeria to make the second round.

I think I speak for all the fans when I say: “we would rather prefer to work on ‘probabilities’ not ‘possibilities’.”

But, as possibilities are all we have left at this point, I reluctantly and sadly will settle for this.

  • Someone should just get to Rohr n let him know nigeria football only comes with success when we play really physical n attacking football. Everytime we play defensive, we never do well n should he continue wt this defensive style, we are out 100% n shamefully. Even if we go out playing aggressive attacking football, fans world over will appreciate it than going out playing defensive. People blame idowu but u could tell he was only playing to instruction same as Iwobi. Against iceland, it will be shadow chasing trying to score from within their goal area as even messi couldnt penetrate but we should be laying pass for as many as possible shots to be taken outside the 18 yard box.

  • BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD DAYS…….
WHERE IS STEPHEN KESHI? WHERE IS MICHAEL BABATUNDE, SUNDAY MBA, EGWUEKWE, GBOLAHAN SALAMI, ODUAMADI? WHERE ARE THE MEDIOCRE PLAYERS WHO DEFEATED AN EAST EUROPEAN NATION BOSNIA AND GAVE ARGENTINA AS GOOD AS THEY GOT!
All some people remember Keshi for is bribery and mediocre playerS. At least his bribery and mediocrity won AFCON and delivered respectable performance at the world cup. IF UNA NO SEE WHITE COACH UNA NO GO REST. WHO TELL YOU SAY WHITE COACH NO DEY TAKE BRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHAME ON EVERYBODY THAT UNFAIRLY CRITICISED KESHI!

Ekong should shut up and face reality , they have failed Nigerians!!…there display is nothing to wrote home about. They have all the time in the world and financial support to do the needful .Keep bursting while have nothing to offer to the country !..your world cup is over Ekong!!…Meanwhile the coach is a flop, you use a play structure that does not suit the Eagles and instead of changing it to a more comfortable 352, Rohr keep repeating the same mistake over and over again !!…is a pity we believed in this team , the team is an eyesore!!
