Troost-Ekong Returns, Shehu Starts, Agu Benched In Bursaspor Win

By Adeboye Amosu:

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong returned to action for Bursaspor who defeated Konyaspor 2-1 in a Turkish Super Lig clash at the Bursa Buyuksehir Belediye Stadium on Monday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The centre-back who was benched in Bursaspor’s last two league games against Goztepe and Kardemir Karabukspor took the place of Estrugal Esroy five minutes from time.

It was Troost-Ekong’s 26th league appearance of the season for the club and he has scored twice.

Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Agu however sat out the game. He was also on the bench for the entire 90 minutes in the club’s previous league game against Kardemir Karabukspor.

Agu has made 22 league appearances for the club with two goals to his name.

However, Nigeria right-back Shehu Abdullahi was involved from start to finish in the game, his 13th appearance of the campaign.

Moussa Sow and Ertugal Esroy were on target for Bursaspor, while Adis Jahovic scored the visitors’ only goal.

  • I think Shehu could be the most important SuperEagles player going to the Mundial. Dude has virtually been a starter at every club he’s played at. Because of Shehu, Mikel Agu is now warming the bench. However, I don’t think Shehu is a right back, although he’s the most versatile player in the SuperEagles, but I think his best position should be in the Midfield. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE# SUPEREAGLES FOREVER.

You right Aphilly.Shehu is a midfielder.I could remember under the late Stephen Keshi in the chan 2014 tournament he featured prominently from the midfield and exceled.
He has played as a midfielder in club football both in Cyprus and now turkey with top ratings.
Henceforth he should be deployed in that position for the super eagles. The trio of Ndidi,Shehu and Mikel would form a steel in the middle of the park.
Rohr should be dynamic and try new things as I believe his best 11 is yet to be fixed because certain players are played out of position. The likes of Iwobi should be deployed in the midfield where he is best than the wings where he struggles in asserting himself.Moses Simon seems to me the best in the left wing.
Apparently we have three weeks camping and friendlies to fix the team.Hopefully within this time the team should take shape and ready to go.

The young man is simply amazing. He is not a natural defender yet he plays in defence for Nigeria and win MVP awards more than once. Very quiet, disciplined but yet very hardworking. We pray God keeps his injury free foing into the world cup. Hes indeed an asset.
