U-17 WWC: Flamingoes Struggle Past Ethiopia, To Face Cameroon

Nigeria’s Flamingoes qualified for the final round of the African qualifiers for the sixth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Saturday, but only on the away goal rule after a 1-1 tie with Ethiopia on aggregate.

The Nigerian girls were held to a 0-0 draw in the second leg of their tie with Ethiopia in Benin City on Saturday.

Bala Nikyu’s girls, who struggled against the Ethiopian underdogs, set up a final round clash with the Cameroon set for February 2018.

A watching Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick was relieved the Flamingoes got through to the final round.

“The coaches have a lot of work to do,” Pinnick told reporters after the match.

“Now that the team is in the final round, and they have some time to work on the squad, I believe they will do what is necessary to turn the team around. We use this opportunity to appreciate the Edo State Government for their tremendous support for all our women teams.”

Chairman of the NFF Women’s Football Committee Alhaja Ayo Omidiran insisted the team will improve.

“The coaches have some weeks at hand to do proper work with the girls and bring in others who can help the squad. The performance today was not gratifying. But I plead with all Nigerians to continue to support all our women teams, including the U-17 girls.”

This girls will never repeats Jordanian experiences of last time they featured in the Middle East Tournaments. The coaches must’ve the understandings about the underage girls.Or we go there and suffered disgraced and humiliations! This results were very poor for any Nigerian team, and this shouldn’t be allowed to happened again by any means. We must use the right people and do what is right and no more of this favouritism!

Naija my country!! When on earth could you people ever dp the right thing? This coach hasn’t anything to offer. A merely draw against underdog Ethiopie ,what an unwanted or less waited result. This man should be relieved from that job and the right one installed immediately. Or we should make a quick purchase of basket that should be used to hatch the scores of goals from the Cameroonian young ladies. i don talk my own.
