USA claimed their first victory at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 trouncing Paraguay 6-0 on Thursday in a Group C, encounter played at the Stade Guy-Piriou, Concarneau reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Savannah Demelo scored a hat-trick and Sophia Smith bagged a brace while Ashley Sanchez added a goal to hand USA a convincing win after their opening day loss to Japan.
Smith opened scoring for the three times winners of the competition in the 15th minute before a Savannah Demelo doubled the lead in the 39th minutes. Demelo made it 3-0 a minute before half time to hand USA a 3-0 lead into the break.
Ashley Sanchez made it 4-0 seconds after the restart before Smith bagged her brace as well in the 63rd minute. Demelo completed her hat trick in the 78th minute.
The win sees USA,move to second spot in Group C despite tied on the same points with Japan but with a superior goal difference of +5 over third place Japan who lost 1-0 to Spain earlier on Thursday.
Spain lead the group having recorded two wins from their opening games while Paraguay who are out of the tournament occupy the bottom of the log having lost their first two games.
USA must beat Spain in their final group game next Monday to brighten their chances of reaching the quarter-finals of the competition while Japan also face similar task against Paraguay hoping USA falters.
