Hosts, France are through to the semi-finals of the 9th FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup on Thursday following a 1-0 win over Korea DPR in the tournament’s second quarter final game at the Stade Guy-Piriou in Concarneau reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Amelie Delabre scored the only goal of the encounter in the 29th minute after Ri Pom-Hyang was adjudged to have handled Sandy Baltimore’s cross from the left in the Korea DPR box.
The goal was Delabre’s fourth strike at the tournament.
In the second half, Korea DPR dominated play while the French side defended well to play on the counter attack.
Korea DPR had attempts on goal through Kim Pom-Ui and Choe Kum-Ok who forced brilliant saves from France goalkeeper Mylene Chavas as the French side held on for a win.
The win was the second for the French U-20 team in five meetings against Korea DPR. Korea DPR had won three previous games.
The win was also a revenge for France who lost in the 2016 final against the defending champions Korea DPR.
France will face Spain in the semi-finals in Vannes on Monday. Spain had earlier defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the first quarter-final clash in Concarneau.
