U-23 Eagles skipper, Azubuike Okechukwu, has been named the Most Valuable Player of the competition at the just concluded Africa U-23 Nations Cup, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Turkey-based midfielder played in all of Nigeria’s games except the semi-final win against hosts Senegal when he was suspended.
The I8-year-old star caught the eye of Confederation of African Football technical study group with his hardworking midfield play and incisive passing ability.
He alongside Warri Wolves forward, Oghenekaro Etebo, who won the topscorers’ award with five goals, goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel and Usman Mohammed played a huge part in helping Nigeria win a first Afcon U-23 title.
Algeria’s goalkeeper, Abdelkadir Salih, was picked as the best shot stopper of the competition, while the fair trophy went to South Africa.
