The U-23 Eagles defeated defending champions the Black Meteors of Ghana 2-0 in their opening Group B clash in the All Africa Games and qualified for the men's football event semi-finals here in Brazzaville.
The win, combined with Ghana's draw against Senegal three days ago, means Nigeria are through to the semi-finals as it is a three-team group.
After dominating for most of the game, the U-23s couldn't break down a resolute Ghana defence in the first half.
In the early parts of the second half, the U-23 Eagles continued their domination of the game but still could not find a breakthrough.
In the 55th minute, the U-23 Eagles domination finally paid off when Junior Ajayi scored off an assist from Etor Daniel.
And with three minutes remaining, Kingsley Sokari made the game safe for the U-23 Eagles after he lobbed the on rushing Ghana keeper to make it 2-0.
