By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Captain of National U-23 team, Azubuike Okechukwu is optimistic that they would beat their Congolese counterpart to qualify for the final play off for the Rio Olympic Games, even as he is dreaming of winning the All Africa Games gold medal.
Azubike told Complete Sport shortly before the U-23s friendly game in Abuja that they are shaping up for a big win over Congo in the first leg here in Nigeria to make the second leg in Congo a mere formality.
He said that the Dream Team as they are popularly known will surprise the continent with the calibre of players in camp and the foreign based players expected to join, stressing that they have a bright chance of not only qualifying for the Olympic Games play offs in Senegal but to also get one of the tickets.
The Bayelsa United midfield ace divulged that the team is presently focussed on how to pick one of the four Olympic games tickets available for Africa and that means beating Congo and qualifying for the play offs.
"HavIng qualified for the All Africa Games billed for Congo in August, we also want to win the gold medal that has eluded Nigeria for long time now. I think we can deliver with God on our side and with the hard work of our coaches" he stated
Having failed to make the final cut in Manu Garba's U-17 and John Obuh's U-20 as well as Stephen Keshi's CHAN squad, the dimunitive ball passer is bent to make it with Samson Siasia's Dream Team and lead them win gold for the country at both AAG and the Olympic games.
