–After 1-0 defeat of Enugu Rangers
Financier of newly promoted Premier League side, Ifeanyi Ubah United and oil mogul, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday splashed a cash reward of $5,000 to players of the team following their 1-0 defeat of Enugu Rangers in a league game.
The money was given to the players immediately after the game with a promise that more will come for as long as the team continues to win its games.
Captain of the team, Chibuzor Okonkwo who incidentally scored the only goal of the match confirmed the cash boost.
“Chief (Ifeanyi) Ubah was at the match venue and was happy that we won the game. As a show of his happiness, he gave us $5,000”, Okonkwo said.
He continued: “He was also present during our first game against Warri Wolves and sent a representative when we traveled to Sunshine.
“He’s an inspiration, whenever we see him around, we tend to go the extra mile knowing that if we win, certainly something extra by way of cash will come to us from his pocket.”
The former U-23 National team right-back cracked home the match winner and says he’s no regret shooting down his former club.
“I was delighted to have scored the goal that fetched us the three points. I was even happier scoring against a big club like Enugu Rangers who happens to by my former club.
“I have no regrets at all because in this business of football, there’s no sentiments at all”, Okonkwo who returned to the domestic league after a spell at Libya said.
