Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike was on target for his new Greek club Olympiacos who defeated Serbian club Partizan Belgrade 3-1 away in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie on Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The game was Emenike’s second outing for Olympiacos since his move from Fenerbahce. His first appearance was in a league game against Adanaspor where he scored in a 3-1 away win.
Olympiacos took the league in the sixth minute through El Fardon Ben Nabonhane.
Partizan equalised in the 10th minute thanks to Leandre Tawamba Kana, but Olympiacos went 2-1 up on 56 minutes through Nabonhane.
Emenike, who came in for Nabonhane with two minutes left, scored the third goal in the 90th minute to give Olympiacos a healthy first leg advantage.
In Greece, Nigerian striker Aaron Samuel was an unused substitute for CSKA Moscow in their 2-0 away win against AEK Athens.
Goals from Alan Dzagoev and Pontus Wernbloom in the 45th and 56th minutes secured the win for CSKA Moscow.
Both Olympiakos and CSKA will host Partisan and AEK Athens respectively in the return legs on August 2nd.
In other first leg third qualifying round first leg matches on Tuesday, Azerbaijan’s Qarabag FK were held at home to a 0-0 draw by FC Sheriff of Moldova, Slavia Prague of Czech Republic pipped visiting Bate Borisov of Belarus 1-0, Romania’s FC FCSB drew 2-2 at home against Viktoria Plzen of Czech Republic while Denmark’s Copenhagen lost 1-0 away to FK Vardar Skopje of Macedonia.
