UCL: Real Madrid Cruise Past PSG Into Quarter-Finals, Liverpool Advance

Real Madrid booked a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after defeating 10-man Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday.
Champions Real Madrid advanced with a 5-2 aggregate win after winning the first leg 3-1 in Madrid three weeks ago.
It was PSG’s second home defeat in 47 games. They were without their injured superstar Neymar, who just underwent surgery for a broken metatarsal.
Casimero scored the winner for Real Madrid in the 80th minute of the encounter.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opener in the 53rd minute with a thumping header for Real Madrid.
The goal was Ronaldo’s 12th in the competition this season and his 31st in all competitions for Real Madrid.
 A deflected goal from Edinson Cavani drew PSG level in the 71st minute.
 
The defeat denied Unai Emery a chance in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the sixth time.
Marco Asensio was also denied a goal by the post in the 65th minute.
 
Marco Verratti was sent off for dissent after he protested to the referee for being fouled in the 69th minute.
 
Cavani restored parity for PSG deflecting in Javier Pastore’s diving header.
But Casimero’s deflected shot put the game beyond PSG.
Ronaldo had two late chances to add to his UEFA Champions League tally of 12 goals but he was denied by the post.
At Anfield, Liverpool sealed their passage to the next round of the competition despite being held to a 0-0 draw by FC Porto in the second leg of their round of 16 tie in Anfied also on Tuesday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side advanced to the quarter-finals courtesy of a 5-0 aggregate win from the first-leg at the Estadio Dragao three weeks ago.
Substitute Mohammed Salah and Saido Mane both missed crucial chances to break the deadlock in the encounter but a draw was enough to book a place in the last eight.
