Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze believes Nigeria will begin their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a bright note with a win over South Africa, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.
The onetime West Bromwich Albion left-back spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com on the team's preparation towards the game billed to hold at Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo on June 10.
"The boasting of South Africa coach (Stuart Baxter) that he knows us (Super Eagles) inside out cannot be taken seriously because the Nigerian coach wants to win the game too," Udeze told Completesportsnigeria com.
"I think we can see that the boys we have in the national team now are committed as well. The friendly matches against Corsica, and more importantly the one with Togo are good preparations for the qualifying match.
"We did not watch the friendly match against Corsica, but I am glad the new boys are responding positively irrespective of the opponents," Udeze stated.
Nigeria and hosts Corsica Island ended their friendly game at the State Francois Costy, Ajaccio Friday evening in a 1-1 stalemate with Kelechi Iheanacho rescuing a draw for Nigeria through a penalty in the 80th minute, cancelling out a 5th minute penalty by Corsica's Jean-Jacqies Mandrichi.
Nigeria will next play Togo on June 1 in Paris in another tune up game before the 2019 AFCON qualifier in Uyo.
The Bafana Bafana are expected to arrive Nigeria on June 7 for their Group E fixture against Gernot Rohr's team.
