Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has backed the home-based Super Eagles players as the debate over their non-invitation for the international friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso rages on, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
FC Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa is the only player from the Nigeria Professional Football League invited by Eagles coach Gernot Rhor for the latest international break.
No outfield player made the cut for the tune-up matches.
"There are very good players in the Nigerian league that should have been invited for the friendly matches," Udeze told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"The guy who is currently the top scorer in the league (Steven Odey with eight goals) at least should have been in the team.
"They're just friendly matches and opportunities for these players would have been of immense benefit. Senegal and Burkina Faso will play their top players," the onetime West Bromwich Albion left back posited.
Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries FC striker, Odey, in an exclusive interview with Completesportsnigeria.com recently reiterated his commitment to MFM's title aspirations and expressed hopes that his goal-scoring form will convince Gernot Rhor to hand him a national team chance.
