Udeze: Super Eagles Will Deal With Superb, Physical Cameroon

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze believes newly crowned African champions Cameroon will not pose a threat to Nigeria's quest to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Indomitable Lions on Sunday defeated Egypt 2-1 in Libreville, Gabon, to lift their fifth AFCON title.

Incidentally, Egypt stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.

Udeze, a former West Bromwich Albion left-back, expresses his optimism as the Super Eagles face a big clash the new African kings on August 28.

"Cameroon had a superb outing in Gabon which surprised most people. In fact, I tipped Ghana to defeat them in the semi-finals, but they went ahead to progress to the final.

"Nigeria have a good side at the moment too. Yes, Cameroon are physical and that gives their opponents the jitters, but hopefully, we will cope with that."

Udeze stresses that whatever be the situation, Gernot Rhor's team must not lose both legs the August fixture.

"The first leg of the fixtures against Cameroon will be crucial. Win it, and we (Nigeria) are almost there, but should they (Cameroon) get that, the pressure might be counter productive."

Udeze was in Nigeria's squad to the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Mali where the Eagles won the bronze medal.
