Flying Eagles assistant coach, Nduka Ugbade, says it is very possible for Nigeria to win a first FIFA U20 World Cup.
The Nigeria U-20 team is logged in group E at the FIFA U-20 World Cup alongside Brazil, Hungary and North Korea slated for New Zealand.
Ugbade who captained the Nigeria U-16 team in 1985 to win the FIFA/Kodak U-16 World Cup in China reckons that there’s a strong possible they can win the tournament for the first time.
“We can win it especially seeing as we haven’t won it before. This is a very good opportunity for us and we should take advantage of it.
“We have done well in this competition in the past, but we never won it. Maybe this is our chance to do it and I believe we have the right materials for the job.”
Nigeria are yet to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup despite coming so close on several occasions, but it is believed in several quarters this is the team to finally lift the trophy, and Ugbade seems to share in that sentiment.
“We have done a lot with these boys and we hope it bears fruit this time. The U-20 World Cup will be different from the U-17 World Cup and we must work towards getting to the level required and with the players understanding the information and science that governs the game, I believe we will do it”, the MFM FC Lagos gaffer stressed.
