Werder Bremen striker Anthony Ujah is elated scoring his first Bundesliga goal for the club in Friday’s 1-1 draw against Hertha Berlin to earn them their first point this season.
And the Nigerian international was quick to add that the draw was an important point for the team having improved on their opening day defeat at home to Schalke last weekend,
“Important point. Although we did all to win. Happy for my first league goal for @werderbremen Great atmosphere from our fans,” he tweeted.
Ujah, who made his second Bundesliga start, his third in all competitions, cancelled out Valentin Stocker’s sixth minute strike in the 20th minute after a cross from left back Ulisses Garcia.
“I tried first with my head and it didn’t go in but then I had a second chance with my foot and it did,” Ujah told the Werder Bremen website of his second goal in three competitive games.
“We were better today than against Schalke, we were more aggressive and our reaction showed that we wanted all three points.
“Obviously the early goal was annoying, a real shame, but the crucial thing was that we showed character and performed well. Everyone fought hard and gave everything. It was definitely a deserved point.”
Ujah is one of the 18 overseas-based players invited for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Tanzania.
