Nigeria Basketball Federation President, Tijani Umar, is confident that the national men's basketball team D'Tigers will not disappoint at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil after beating Angola in the final of the 2015 Afrobasket in Tunisia to win the trophy, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The former national team player who is also on the board of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, believes that winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Basketball will help the game to develop in the country, while believing that it will also make the team more popular on the continent.
"We are all happy winning this tournament and I want to believe that with this victory achieved by D'Tigers, the game will be more developed and Iam hoping that it will make more individuals and corporate organization to believe in the game of basketball in the country," says the basketball boss.
Umar added: "The players have also seen what it takes to win the Afrobasket and I am sure they will do more at the Olympic Games to make sure they did not disappoint Nigerians. It was a good tournament and I believe it will help the game in Nigeria."
D'Tigers who returned to their bases shortly after the tournament except Captain Olumide Oyedeji who returned to Nigeria to conclude his annual basketball camp, may regroup before the year runs out for an invitational tournament if everything works well for the federation.
