Nigerian duo Aminu Umar and Raheem Lawal’s club Osmanlispor’s hope of escaping relegation was finally dashed following their 2-1 away loss to Akhisarspor in their final game in the Turkish Super Lig for this season on Friday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The defeat confirms Osmanlispor’s relegation into Turkish Lig 1 (second-tier division).
Umar and Lawal did not make Osmanlispor’s squad for the game against Akhisarspor.
Osmanlispor, in the 16th position and on 33 points in the 18-team league table, needed to beat Akhisarspor by a wide margin and hope Konyaspor who are current 15th on 36 points, lose heavily to Fenerbahce on Saturday.
Hasan Ali Adiguzel gave Akhisarspor the lead in the 32nd minute before Furkan Ozcal drew Osmanlispor level on 45 minutes.
And in the 90th minute, Mugdat Celik scored the winner to give Akhisarspor the win.
Also on Friday, Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi was not listed for Trabzonspor who ended their season with a 3-0 home win against Karabukspor.
The win means Trabzonspor ended this season’s campaign in the fifth position on 55 points, just one place below the UEFA Europa League spot occupied by Besiktas in fourth on 68 points.
In another Turkish top flight game on Friday, Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medal winner Azubuike Okechukwu was in action as his club Yeni Malatyaspor rounded off their season with a 3-2 home win against Kayserispor.
Malatyaspor ended the season in 10th position on 43 points.
