Uzoho Keeps 11th Clean Sheet In Deportivo Fabril Win

By Johnny Edward: Nigerian international goalkeeper Francis Uzoho kept his 11th clean sheet of the season for Real Deportivo Fabril who defeated Navalcarnero 1-0 Sunday’s Segunda Division B (Spanish third tier) league game on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Borja Galan scored the only goal of the encounter for Real Deportivo Fabril in the seventh minute.

Uzoho has also been beaten 11 times in 17 league games this season.

The 19-year-old is one of the three goalkeepers invited to Nigeria’s squad for the friendlies against Poland and Serbia later this month.

Real Deportivo Fabril are now fourth in the table with 50 points from 29 games.

They face Guijuelo at home in their next game on the 18th of March.

That guy,Uzoho is A CAT! He will shock many at the Mundial. We only need to encourage him to garner the necessary confidence. And I need to quickly say that the NFF and Coach Gernot Rohr are doing this, particularly when against all odds,he was fielded against the start-studded Argentina during last year’s friendly in Krasnodar, Russia.

Monitoring Francis Uzohor’s performance in his club, and the other prospects for Poland & Serbia matches, only brings to mind a similar scenario leading to WC ’94.
I have read some comparative reports about the two sets, 1994 & 2018.
    It makes me laugh.
The current team is far stronger & more exposed than the ’94 team.
SE under GR are more united, more skillful & more exposed.
This is a far more determined & experienced team, with several tactical formations & a playing style that gives them an apparent edge over the team of ‘White Boys’ from Europe & America.
Strenght & Physicality are decisive factors here.
Current Super Eagles will surprise the World.
    Proud of SE!
    Keep it up, Francis..!

@King Maker you are 100% 94 squad is far behind this squad.Yekini was our biggest player in setubal playing div.2 back then and others like Nwanu Belguim how can you compare with this killer squad of skilled and exposed players like Mikel,Moses,Iwobi,Nacho,Ndidi,Musa,Igalo etc and younger boys like Simon,…abeg no comparism.
      Lets pray for luck.

i pray they don’t take him, because he will kill us in the world cup, i don’t need a prophet to tell me that, NO TO AKPEYI

Uzoho has one thing no other Nigerian goalkeeper has, it’s called “reach”. He is a very tall guy who will command his area well. Defending your goal is a team effort and not the job of the goal keeper alone, however you need a goal keeper that will not give away free goals and can catch simple crosses and command his area well. For now I think Uzoho is our best keeper both for the sake of our future and present. Except a miracle happens and Carl Ikeme gets fit. Those calling Austine Ejide should forget that cheat who throws the ball into his own goal. I think Dan Akpeyi is still a good keeper and should go to World Cup but I don’t see Akpeyi as number 1, the same applies to Ezenwa.

Carl will be tried out in Nigeria vs England match. The whole World can see how good and strong he is in that Match in June.

as for me, i see young uzoho as our no 1 keeper for wc. we just have to keep encouraging him…i don’t see carl back into the team as he needs to play some games before the wc even if a miracle happens. Rohr Only said carl will be honoured to play the kick off against england and not the full match…ezenwa and ajiboye can be back-up to uzoho. chippa united is almost the same as plateau united or even less and ajiboy has done well for club and country. well if akpeyi does well against poland or serbia, then i will stop criticizing him

  • Even if there is a mirable and Carl recovers, football will not be the first thing on his mind. Even if football is on his mind, he has been out for too long and will need a lot of time, training and some games to get back to top shape. I really pray he recovers, but I’m not expecting him to come back for goalkeeping duties especially with the 2018 World Cup, three months away. For the England friendly, Rohr has proposed that Carl will do the official kick off before the match commences.
In his absence, I am one of those that support Uzoho to be made the number one goalkeeper. After watching his exploits in the Argentina friendly, I downloaded the full match and have watched it over 12times. That boy did marvelously well. You all really need to watch it a second time, especially without the usual high blood pressure of Super Eagles live matches. His best save for me in that match was the one he made between 89/90th minute. It was a very dangerous cross that would have been converted to a goal by two Argentines who were already at the other end waiting for the ball to come over. Uzoho smartly parried the ball away and averted the danger.
There is no much time. I suggest we should start building him up as our number 1 as soon as possible and redress our steps if we get a better option along the line or if he fails to convince us enough in the forthcoming friendlies. Rohr has already started this. If u look at the list, Uzoho was listed first in the goalkeeper-category. In international football, goalkeeping is the only category that is listed in an order (decendency) because there is only one goalkeeper in a lineup unlike defenders, midfielders and attackers. These other categories are usually listed without any order, because they contain different postions and players that can play different positions under them.
I also suggest, we give him the shirt written number 1 and play him fully from start to finish in atleast one of the two friendlies. I suspect, this is what Rohr will do.
In essence, I’m saying we should encourage and gamble with Uzoho as our number one for the two friendlies. If he does well, we will take it up from there and establish him more by giving him more game time.
Getting a new goalkeeper always come with some skepticism by fans. It is normal. I had the same problem the first time Carl Ikeme kept. It was after watching him make quality saves and goalkeeping in three matches, that my confidence in him actually manisfested. In conclusion, lets watch the young man in the two friendlies and see if our confidence in him will burgeon or diminish. Thank you
