Uzoho: Super Eagles Fired Up For Argentina Clash, I Don’t Fear Messi

By Nnamdi Ezekute in Russia:
Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has declared that the team are primed for Tuesday’s crucial Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D clash against Argentina at the Krestovsky Stadium, St Petersburg following Friday’s 2-0 win against Iceland, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa bagged a brace as the Super Eagles bounced back from the 2-0 loss against Croatia in their first game
to beat the Vikings.

Argentina have picked a point from their first two games and were humiliated 3-0 by Croatia on Thursday.

A win against La Albiceleste send the Super Eagles into the second round while a draw will be enough depending on the outcome of the game between Croatia and Iceland.

“It is a crucial game for us, a crucial game for both teams. It’s going to be a do-or-die affair. The last time we played against them, it was a friendly game and I kept a clean sheet,” Uzoho, who made history as the second youngest goalkeeper ever to keep a clean sheet in a World Cup game in the win against Iceland on Friday, told reporters in Russia.

“I’m confident that we will beat them and also believe in the team as well. “We have three points now from the win against Iceland which gives us confidence.

“We have the winning mentality now, so we will enter the game against Argentina on Tuesday with a good mindset.”

The young goalkeeper who is line to make his ninth appearance for Nigeria will come face to face with Argentina super star Lionel Messi for the first time but he is forced by the prospect of facing the struggling Barcelona man.

“I’m not scared of facing Messi. I’m actually confident of my ability and that of my team,” Uzoho, who appeared for Deportivo Is Coruna in LaLiga last season, added.

“Today (Saturday) we begin preparations for the game against Argentina on Tuesday and we have not had enough time to talk about Messi and Argentina.

“On Tuesday, we will try to give our best and do something better.”

@Omo9ja na xo! You are spot on

  • We only need a draw with Argentina and it doesn’t depend on the result of the match between Croatia and Iceland. If Iceland beats Croatia with 10 goals, it doesn’t matter because they will only have 4 points and a draw with Argentina will give us 4 points then head to head rule will be applied and because we beat Iceland then we shall take 2nd position and qualify into the next round.

    • @samuel thank u, i that was my initial believe not until CS team post somthing diff. This morning which i dnt really understand, head to head result shd be the first consideration b4 goals diff. Or anything else.

So wrong bro. Goal difference comes before head to head rule

  • Ighalo is not technical enough and not creative also. He is just using energy.

The Super Eagles must fly high for the full 90 minutes. Yes you can! Musa has already scored 4 goals against Messi – 2 goals in 2014 and 2 against Barcelona in a friendly. Please make it a winnig hattrick on Tuesday.

  • Mark my words, Argentina will be the first South American Team we will beat mercilessly in a world cup. They will surely fall. I hope our boys avoid mistake or defensive errors.

  • Eagles argentina is work over for us, just to put our best

My ernest pray and desire on tuesday is for the super eagles to eliminate the messi led abiceleste ofargentina, i know it won’t be an easy task but is not impossible, because argetina will throw there all at us but with the right tactics and personnel (especially ebuehi been a starter) full concentration, dedication, self belief, avoidance of silly mistakes and utilisation of any opportunity that we get, i believe we can conquer the argetines.
    #yes we can
    #i still believe

Mr Sam, the head to head rule isn’t applicable in FIFA competitions. Goals +- differentials are the deciders in case teams tied on points.
That rule comes into effect in a two-legged tie games which is mostly used in UEFA competitions.

The eagles must make sure that the ball didn’t get to Messi. Formation that will crowd the midfield is needed. (3-5-2)or(4-4-2), although  Argentina uses the later formation and Messi must not be fouled in the vital area. The Super Eagles must not give away free kicks at the edge of the box. If the ball didn’t get to Messi he will be frustrated. That was what Iceland and Croatia did. Cut the supplies of ball to Messi, choke the midfield and don’t allow them too much space to operate and Argentine will fall YAKATA and bide Russia good bye.

I like the way you talk, Uzoho. Great confidence and a sound mentality. We are behind the Super Eagles all the way up.

Please let us talk less and let us concentrate fully on the job at hand. Yes make it a-do-die affair, but keep everything to yourselves as players. Ordinarily Nigerians are not expecting us to loose to Argentina in the match. All the great performance against Iceland will immediately amount to nothing if we loose to Argentina. Meanwhile, Argentina are not good in this tournament.
This is however, where the danger lies. They have not won any matching the tournament yet, more so that nothing short of a win is good enough for them. Super Eagles, be battle ready. Good luck.
