Van Gaal Confirms Nine Injury Blows For Man United

–Van Persie Misess Swansea Match

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Danny Welbeck, Antonio Valencia and Sam Johnstone are all currently injured and will not be part of the squad to face Swansea tomorrow.

It was hoped Evans, Welbeck or Valencia might be fit in time for the game tomorrow and their absence means United will need to bring in replacements.

However, Van Gaal is not worried about replacing Shaw at left-back: “We played in the USA with Reece James and Ashley Young in that position. I’m not worried.”

At right-back, United have Rafael and Valencia out with injuries so it is likely that James and Young will be United’s wing-backs tomorrow.

Van Gaal also confirmed Robin van Persie is not yet fit enough to feature and will not feature against Swansea. The 31-year-old has been working on an individual programme to help him regain his match fitness but the game tomorrow has come too early for him.

All in all, United have nine first-team players who won’t feature against Swansea tomorrow because of injury which is a staggering amount going into the first game of the season.

However, Van Gaal is taking it in his stride: “Nine players injured but I am not nervous. Do you see it?”
