Louis van Gaal declared himself ‘very pleased’ with Manchester United’s performance after their 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day.
The Dutchman has often been critical of United this season, even when they have won.
But he didn’t have any complaints after they registered their seventh win in their last eight games.
Van Gaal said: “We dominated the game for 90 minutes. That’s the most important thing.
“To create chances and score goals like this is fantastic. I’m very pleased with the performance today.”
The United manager was particularly pleased with Wayne Rooney, after he scored twice and set up Robin van Persie’s third from midfield.
Van Gaal added: “When he scores two goals and also give the assist for the third goal then you are very happy as a manager.
“He is also very happy I assume. He has the lung capacity to run for 90 minutes as a midfielder. That’s why I use him like a midfielder.
“But I can also use him as a striker. But at the this moment it’s better for the team when he plays in midfield.”
