Villarreal’s Europa League Progress Excites Uche

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Super Eagles and Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche took to Twitter to express his excitement at his club’s progress into the Round of 32 of the Europa League on Thursday night.

Spanish side Villarreal defeated Apollon 2-0. Uche played for 31 minutes in the game after he was introduced in the 59th minute in place of Argentina striker Luciano Vietto.

“Happy for qualifying for the #UEL next round and proud of my teammates! You are great! @VillarrealCF #Endavant,” Uche tweeted.

Uche’s tweet came after the Yellow Submarines finished second in Group A of the table following the end of the group games, with 11 points behind Borrusia Monchengladbach.

Uche was however yellow-carded ten minutes after coming off the bench.

The victory was Villarreal’s fourth in five games, manager Marcelino’s side drawing the other.

Uche’s team will hope to get a good draw in Monday’s draw for the Round of 32 as third-placed clubs in the Champions League get into the second-tier of European club competition.

However the club will now concentrate on domestic affairs in the La Liga as they play third-placed Atletico Madrid this weekend.
