Super Eagles star and Watford top scorer Odion Ighalo may be rested when his side take on Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round tie at the City Ground.
Coach Quique Sanchez Flores admits he will make several changes to his Watford side with a Premier League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday followed by a trip to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of them.
And that could mean debuts for new signings Nordin Amrabat and Costel Pantilimon.
“For Saturday I know which players I want to protect and I know the players I will want to test and check on,” Flores said in his pre-match conference on Friday.
“Amrabat needs to play. He was playing for Malaga every week until he moved so he is ready.
“Everything I’ve needed this week in training he has shown. He is very clever, the top players are. He has understood what we want very quickly.
“It is possible Pantilimon will play. Since he joined us I can see he is a very good goalkeeper.
“Heurelho (Gomes) needs to rest and it is likely Pantilimon will play.”
Flores added: “Chelsea and Tottenham are very tough teams. We will need fresh legs for those matches.
“So maybe we will change more players against Nottingham Forest.
“But we want to get into the next round. We want the players who deserve to play to show us they are good enough to stay in the starting XI.”
