Wenger Rues Arsenal’s ‘Frustrating’ Top 4 Failure

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Arsenal manager,Arsene Wenger, rued their failure to bag Champions League slot on the final day of 2016/17 Premier League season on Sunday,  but commended his players despite the futile bid after a 3-1 win against Everton at the Emirates, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Gunners lost captain Laurent Koscielny in the 14th minute due to a red card, but they still dominated the game against a poor Everton side, securing three points at the Emirates.

However Liverpool’s 3-0 win over relegated Middlesbrough meant Wenger finishes outside the top four for the first time since his arrival in north London 21 years ago.

Arsenal end the campaign in fifth, with 75 points; a total that is four more than last season, when they finished second.

"It's frustrating (to miss out on top four)..

"It was down to one point in the end," the Frenchman told the media after the game.

"The total is decent if you look at it over the years. We did the job until the end. We were remarkable with 10 men today."

Wenger said of Koscielny dismissal: "It was harsh, but we have to accept the decision.

"Gabriel's injury looks quite serious, especially for next Saturday. We lost two centre-backs and that's a big blow."

After the FA Cup final on Saturday Arsenal will now concentrate on strenthening their squad ahead of next season which starts on August 12, 2017.
