Westerhof Hails Keshi’s Eagles Job Extension

–Dutch coach says NFF acted wisely by retaining Big Boss

Clemense Westerhof, a Dutch and former Super Eagles Manager has dubbed the Nigeria Football Federation as ‘wise men’ following their decision to extend Stephen Keshi’s Super Eagles coaching contract.

Westerhof holds the enviable record of being the longest serving Super Eagles having taken up the job in 1989 and departed in 1994 with a Nations Cup title win in Tunisia (1994) and World Cup second round appearance same year in USA as high points of his five year reign.

Keshi, a former Super Eagles captain and AFCON winner as captain in 1994 and as coach in 2013 as well as World Cup second round appearance in Brazil 2014 under his belt.

The former Togo and Mali coach stands to overhaul Westerhof’s years in-charge with his expected contract extension and Westerhof termed the NFF as wise men for acting in tandem with the reality of the moment rather than losing to coach to other countries.

“That’s a wise decision by the federation (NFF), it would have been bad if they had allowed Stephen Keshi to go”, starts the Dutch-Gerian from his home in the Netherlands when Complete Sports called him up on Sunday.

“He really deserved it, it’s an opportunity for him to continue the good work he started in his first contract.

“I mst say it is good for the team, it is good for Nigeria football development. He can now sit down and look at areas the team fell short at the World Cup and get them better this time”, Westerhof emphasised.

Reminded that contract extension for Keshi means the Big Boss getting close equaling his five years reign as Super Eagles coach, Westerhof stressed that he knew Keshi was bound to make it big in coaching because he had all the qualities.

“I know Stephen Keshi will be a good coach because he had the qualities, leadership and personality.

“He’s already gone the double in the Nations Cup and qualified for the World Cup second round.
“I’m happy for him and I congratulate him,” Westerhof concluded.

The former Nigerian coach, (Clement Westahoff) has the football coaching talent. He likes Nigeria, and he can still be called back as the technical adviser to Steven Keshi if Nigeria need a technical adviser.
