What Went Wrong With Keshi’s Team Vs Congo?

The Super Eagles kick started their defense of the AFCON title on a losing note on Saturday, September 6 2014, bowing 2-3 to Congo in Calabar.

What do you think went wrong? Do you think Keshi’s team will bounce in the qualifiers?

Have your say here about Nigeria and AFCON 2015, just as a certain Izzylove promptly reacted here on Completesportsnigeria.com moments after the match ended on Saturday.

“This is the worst match I have watched this year. Ask them now, they will site NFF crisis and poor pitch as an excuse, as if the female U20 did not perform well in Canada despite the NFF crisis. In fact, a likely FIFA ban will save our face, we don’t have a team for AFCON. If we play like this against South Africa in Pretoria, we should expect the bashing of our life. Again, I’ve been defending Keshi up till now, but from now I back out. The same thing he did against France he repeated today, leaving his best players on bench only to bring them on when the damage has already been done. Omeruo played his worst game for Nigeria today. Lastly, Keshi should be sacked and another Coach to take over should draft in Iheanacho, Nwakali, Awoniyi, Success and Mohammed (their captain at U17) into the team with immediate effect. Mikel, the worst midfielder in Africa should be dropped with immediate effect. NONSENSE.”

Is too early for all this reactions, we are actually disappointed but the nff should put their house in order. Mikel has no fault in today’s match. To me Mikel played as a patriotic Nigeria. The whole team mess up no individual blame on anyone. To me I believe today’s loss is for a purpose for the management of Nigeria team to be sincere we have a lot of things going on in the management of the team which are needed to be address, I believe on a good day congo can not defeat Nigeria but this is a sign for all stake holder to wake up. Moreover, I don’t believe the U J Usiene stadium should be the best stadium in Nigeria is that is the case then it is a shame on Nigeria sport administrators. With the level of civilisation and global recognition I think Nigeria should boast of five good stadium with proper construction. I was afraid when I looked up thinking their won’t be light in th stadium when it was getting dark. The players, coaching crew, NFF, Ministry of sport and other stakeholders should see this defeat as a wake up call for a better future. We Nigeria football fans should be constructive and not being destructive in our criticism. Keshi must remain the coach. Let Chris Giwa respect himself and leave that office. Up Nigeria. I still support the Super Eagles they remain the best in Africa. May God help us.

Where are the likes of Moses, Joel Obi,Haruna Lukman, Sunday Mba, Chinedu Obasi etc.We need to ask Why is Keshi shutting out these good players from Super Eagles?

  • CoalCityStar 4 years ago

The infighting within the football administration rubbed off on this result big time. It’s like everyone couldn’t be bothered with any outcome. Maybe it’s what we needed to address fundamental issues. It’s a very poor performance from Super Eagles and full credit to the Congolese, they took full advantage and properly deserved their win.

Can the NFF just show us a bit of respect and put a stop to the constant mire that’s our football administration.

Sentiment will surely destroy Keshi’s achievement so far. Because his selection is clearly on sentiment and purely not on merit. Ask him about Uche, Obafemi Martins etc. NFF should re organize and let the Minister of Sport allow the football its necessary dependence. Un necessary Interference and politics will kill this team. Finally, Keshi needs to take a bow because he simply has nothing to offer Super Eagles again!!! No dynamism and new tactics in his game, his ability to read game technically is very minimal. Change is vital.

You guys should live Mikel alone he is not the only one in that team. Didn’t you guys see Aziz and how bad he played? The first and the second goal was a pure defensive erro . John Mikel Obi was he responsible for those two goals? The all played nonsens, all the blame should go to Keshi not to Mikel. Thanks

So long as SOK remain as Naija coach with the same tactice of lobbing arial balls to his short strikers against giant defenders, no headway. He is more interested to discover local players whom he can easily sell to make his money. If not we have so many good Nigerian players abound everywhere in Europe. No tactical display of one, two touches of diagonal display, no off the ball movements by players, no midfield firework display of ball gogglers. There should be enough good players to justle for each position in the team. A situation where non performing players are always assured of their position is canter productive. In the area of football admin and facilities, there is no culture of
maintaining our good playing fields. All were left to decay and become bumpy and that hinders display of good football. Let the NFF also puts its house in order for progress.

Nigeria got the result it deserved. As for Keshi,he is better off as a team coordinator. He is neither a great tactician nor a good trainer. His players are never fit. They always tire out quickly. And his style of play is agonizingly outdated and often too predictable. The solution is to get a good European or south American coach whom can teach the boys team play and in addition teach them the basic techniques of scoring goals.

Anyone singling out mikel for this depeat must be very stupid and not an impartial game reader. Mikel played one of his best games in Nigeria’s jersey yesterday. He never put any foot wrong in my own assessment. I was one of those who criticized his world cup perfomances against france, but as far as yesterday;’s name is concern, despite defeat I rate him high, he was all over the picth and showed high level of patriotism. I only faulted Keshi’s selection of Nwofor,Nnanmdi Oduamadi and Ramon Azeez ahead of Emenike, Igiebor, etc. We knew Congo have giant and energetic players, so we should have fielded physically bu tactically gifted players. We saw better perfomance when Those physically built players like Emenike, igiebor and salami. Please keshi should learn from European coaches on management of stubborn players. He should recall Ike Uche, Moses, and other active experience players. In my own opinion, non of our current defender is as good as old yobo. We saw it at the world cup.
Keshi should use the best players to handle the qualifiers otheriwse do not be astonished to see Nigeria missing out in next years Afcon. Bench warming moses is far better than our current options in that department.

IZZYLOVE or what re u called, go away with your small mind, thank God you are not a factor, people like you are irritating to the game, rubbish.

    • Keshi, i see he is not too mature even with all of his experience, what kind pf a coach that will resign and tell his players just moments after loosing a amatch and all of the players are sad to tell them that he is leaving, same thing happened after winning the nations cup. What kind of a coach that does not know how to handle a stubborn player. How the world will you be called a manager and cant do his work properly. Keshi is too proud, pride goes before destruction. Let him probe that he deserve increase in salary. He has just lost three games in a roll and yet he is not ashamed. Pls let try Sunday Oliseh, B

Keshi tactical defficiency has be unfold yesterday. He has no business with the team again. We succumbed to the Congolese because Keshi lacks the idea of modern football. And his bias mode of selecting players is questionable. It will be unfair for Keshi to tell Nigerians that the players we saw against Congo are the best we have in the country.Uche Ike scored for Villareal in the Spanish leauge yesterday but Keshi refuses to stop his fake story over the issue he has with Uche.Where is Haruna Lukman,Obasi?Osaze name was not included in the list of invited players before the striker eventually got injured while playing for his English club. The tired legs, and bench warmers we saw yesterday are un touchable because they are his yes,yes boys.

  • Let me start of by saying I expect a lot of bad reactions after this match. But I think the problem is many of us don’t know what our problem is.
Our problem has been Keshi. And I am not saying that because of this match alone. I am saying this because after lifting the AFCON 2013 Cup (which I still think was a fluke), I have not seen any steady improvement of the team. And I have been sounding it loud and clear to everyone I have argued with who is pro-Keshi, that the man is too static for my lacking and lacks technical depth. He needed to have been reinforcing the areas of our team that need help all this years is instead of having battles with specific players who could do us some great help. He needed to have been leaving sentiments aside and relying on players who are proving their mettle in the pitch, but it seems this man just dont get it.. We called him a hero and all kind of good names, and that he deserves to be given another contract, I cant wait until he fails again and again. I will not support Super Eagles until I can believe in the coach we hire to handle the team. This same crop of players should have done better with their chemistry. This man needs assistance. Well I wonder which country will want him now.. He knows very well of this which is why he settled for 6million

  • @Ejay:u’ve said it all keshi jus have to go for d eagles to move forward.

  • I av being waiting for this heavy defeat for long because if this has not happened, we wouldn’t knw the havoc keshi is causing the team, for me keshi is just doing business with the team parading players who are ready to settle him or players who he can manage and sell to foreign clubs because for me I don’t knw what nwafor and uchebo is doing in the team, I can not see any technical and tactical input in the team since he take over the team, we have just being winning all our games by luck and chances , I just hope that relevant authorities will act fast and save the team from future embarrassment.

Keshi is not Tactical-his tactics are obselete He is also sentimental in players’ selection

  • chido 4 years ago

Obviously our SE was not at their best yesterday, they were too relaxed for winning a game, and were punished for that. Keshi may not be the best coach in the world but at least he has done us proud to an extent in the recent past and as such deserve some measure of respect from us. In our comments lets try and be a little bit considerate in how we select our words. Keshi is a man like u!

nigeria should hire the former coach of algeria , Vahid Halidhozic who made Africa proud in the match bw Algeria & Germany in Brazil 2014. he should be assisted by Sunday Oliseh, in the same way christian chukwu assisted westerhof & equaveon assisted Lagerbarg. Vahid is nicknamed in Europe as the ” master of counter attack ” ! Oliseh is the only Nigeria with complete 13 UEFA coaching certificates & needs to be given a chance to prove his rating. Vahid is willing to receive 4 million a month. keshi, siasia, kadiri ikhana, john ogu, mercy akide, florence omagbemi, ogan, should all be sponsored to europe to attend UEFA courses & attached to some european clubs for 2 seasons to upgrade thier tactical knowledge of the game. They should then go out to other African teams like angola, Benin, Zimbabwe & Botswana to coach thier teams. Super eagles is not the only team one must coach. Odegbami should be encouraged to vie for NFF presidency. And any super eagles match without Ike Uche, Osaze, Enyeama & John Ogu is doomed. Enough of these nonsense. We never learn.

  • Keshi is not perfect, he try all he can,but unfortunately he lost, we all blamed him. Nevertheless, Keshi is still better than some of our previous coaches, to me keshi should be using that same team that won the Nation cup 2013, those guys can win matches, becos those guys i say in WC can not win the next Nation Cup if proper amendment are not made that same team will flop in next Nation Cup, the former coaching crew should also be considered, likes of Sunday Mba,Ike Uche,Ideye brown should also be considered, since these players exit, Emenike have not score any goal up till now.

I was not disappointed at the outcome of the match. But I was surprised. We did not play our game. Keshi should have started Emenike since he is the main striker we have got for now. It was an expensive mistake which should not repeat itself on Wednesday. Our defense was poor. But in all, we will bounce back. I believe. South Africa will fall and must fall. Keshi should be encouraged to start Emenike and Odumamdi. He should also please reconcile with UCHE. Bring him back. He is a potent striker. His presence in the team will add quality to the attack.

  • Dominic edet ene 4 years ago

Keshi should keep sentiment and pride aside if he really want 2 excel in his job as the nigeria’s head coach. He most realise his mistakes n correct his errors. Also he must bring back the likes of ike uche who he claims his not tactically discipline. Cause if we talk of players who are or where indiscipline that means he his also guilty of this offence. Every one knows how sturbon keshi was during his playing days. Ike uche to me is one of the most discipline nigerian player as long as am concern. I wholeheartedly believe its a big lie when it comes to him being indiscipline. Bring in the likes of harunna lukman, obafemi Martins who are currently on their best form in the moment. Keshi must stop being sentimental in team selection. He should stop the issue of good boy and bad boy thing and focus on the players that can deliver when ever they are called upon. Finally he should stop gambling with the players, as this may bring big calamity upon our darling super eagles.

  • Ogugua 4 years ago

Y’all should leave Keshi alone. He has earned the right to be the coach of this team. Truth is that we have a bunch of average players who cannot do more than what they’re doing now. It was actually a miracle to have won the ANC with this team. A coach is as good as his players.

Another point we must consider is that as a matter of urgency we should draft Iheanacho the former U-17 MPV to our super Eagles. You cannot field 2 holding midfielders in Mikel & Onazi and hope to create and win games. If Iheanacho is already training and playing with Man City guys, then he’s good enough to man our central midfield in place of Mikel Obi who’s not creative. Not saying Mikel is not good but not in that position. See the Congolese number 10 and how he turned out team upside down. Please stop the hysteria. It’s just a loss which happened at the right time. Our work is clearly cut out for us. I believe they will qualify.

But I still don’t know keshi drop Dele Ayienugba this guy is better than second and third keeper I think everybody know that, in Israel this guy people called him fligh car of Israel he had good record than our second keeper now I want keshi to tell all the nation why Dele is not qualify for World Cup or Caf qualification

  • Osundina Seyi Ademola 4 years ago

I won’t make mention of any player because football should be a team game instead Keshi should stop pretending coaching eagles while his mind is off the peach. He is good for the job but let him be in physical spirit. If am permited to name a team, I will name an active one’s.Coach steven Keshi let corruptn and corrupt administrators a wave.

  • I think that what is happening in the SUPER EAGLES is the same as what is happening in the Nigerian politics for long; the tendency to block others from coming up once you are there! In deed some of the S/EAGLES players seem to have assumed a cult status; whether they are good or not is irrelevant to Stephen Keshi. For instance I challenge him to explain to Nigerians why Obi Mikel must always make Keshi’s team and play 90 mins? He may be a good player, but has he ever maximised his role in the team? Yet players like Haruna Lukman, Isaac Promise, Ike Uche, Kelechi Iheanachor, etc. etc. are shut out. A certain Joel Obi almost shut out Mikel out of the S/Eagles mid-field relevance before injury brought Mikel a respite. I commend the efforts of whoever called in Joel then. Keshi should display such rare courage in his job. Short and simple.

  • Idume Kingsley. 4 years ago

Personally I will say that Nigerians forget so soon, if the going is good Keshi will be a good coach but if the going gets bad everybody will be calling for Keshi’s head, nawa ooo. Let us be reasonable and see how we can make the Eagles start winning again. If you are working for someone who does not appreciate you, this is the kind of result you will get. If NFF had renewed the coach’s contract on time, he would be happy and do his work with enthusiasm. You cannot give what you do not have. There was not happiness in doing the work and chop money NFF should take note and save our team. Make the coach happy and see if he will not deliver.

  • torunwo 4 years ago

Keshi, shld go and allow Sunday Oliseh in as super eagles coach.Den Nigerian players will be super again

  • Anybody, who played football in his secondary school days, (80’s to 90’s),will see clearly there is no natural footballer in our National team any more. What we have there are just good athletes, who went into football because of the money.Simple basics of the game they don’t know it.The coach compounds the problem.Maybe it is his level of understanding of the game,I can’t tell.Keshi was a good player in his days, but with the kind of players he invites, makes one wounder if something is wrong somewhere, the truth I hope is not far coming,we will know.

Dwelling more in a duplex of corruption is really killing MR okechukwu ‘ordinary’ stephen Keshi… Imagine him trying to have IK Uche for qualifier Again and later drop him for agbim or mr flavour… Stupid money monger coach.
