Organizers of the domestic women’s football league has shifted all match day-2 games slated for this weekend by 24 hours, Completesportsnigeria.com has been informed.
The matches originally slated for Saturday May 9, will now hold on Sunday May 10 across the country, Isaac Ajisafe, Secretary of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, NWFL board said in a statement on Wednesday.
Ajisafe said the decision to move the games was to ensure massive support for the senior women national team, Super Falcons, who will go head to head with their Mali counterparts
in a Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifier Saturday at the Abuja National Stadium.
The Super Falcons defeated the Malians 8-0 last month in Abuja in an All Africa Games qualifier.
The Women’s League scribe said the team needs the support and prayers of all Nigerians at
this point in time to realize their 2016 Olympic Games qualification ambition.
He also said that the League body has received the approval of the NFF Executive board to include two more teams in the Premier League to make it an even number.
“NFF has approved the inclusion of two Women League clubs – COD United Ladies FC of Lagos and Capital City Doves FC of Abuja to the Women Premier League to make an even number of Sixteen teams for the 2015 League Season.
“This will make it possible for the teams to be divided into two groups of eight each in the abridged season”.
Ajisafe disclosed the institution of a monthly award by the NWFL for the best goalkeeper of the month and the highest goal scorer.
At the end of the season, we would now hold a general award ceremony that would be all embracing.
“This is in a way to encourage excellence in the League and bring the best out of our players.”
He said that the League body is ever ready to partner any private individual or organization that would want to buy into the program.
