Nigerian fighters at the ongoing 2017 World Taekwando Championship in Muju, South Korea had disappointing ends to their fights on Tuesday morning despite starting the day on promising notes, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
According to Nigeria Takwaendo Federation Twitter posts on Tuesday morning, Isah Adamu lost to Moldova's Stepan Dimitrov in Round of 32. Earlier in the morning, Adamu won his fight against USA's Tyler Miyagishima to set up the fight against the Moldovan.
Nigeria's female fighters were not so lucky either in their contests as Chinazum Nwosu bowed out to No 3 seed, Russia's Kudashova Tatiana 1 – 19 in the Round of 16 having earlier defeated Cote d' Iviore's Awa Outtara 4-3, while Nigeria's 2015 African Champion, Uzoamaka Otuadinma, lost 10 – 26 to 2016 World Team Champion, South Korea's An Saebom An.
Josephine Esuku lost 15 – 6 to Azerbaijan's Safiye Polat in the Round of 64 in the Female -46kg category.
Nigeria's other men's medal hopeful, Santos Akhilele, had crashed out of the competition and is now looking forward to participating in next week's Korean Open in Chunchun.
Akhilele won his first first fight 22 – 11 against Phouthasone Thammavong of Laos but was defeated in his second fight 14 – 16 by Zelaya Andres of Guatemala in a Well fought game.
