From Mumini Alao in Port Alegre:
Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is satisfied with the team’s showing in the 3-2 defeat to Argentina in Porto Alegre on Wednesday.
“THIS is a young squad but we are growing in confidence with every match,” the Fenerbahce defender told a post-match press conference.
“Argentina has been our biggest test so far and even though we lost the game, I would say we passed the test. The gap between both teams was close as the score line shows.”
Yobo, the most capped Nigerian player in recorded history, will reach a century of caps if he plays against France on Monday. As expected, he is delighted at the prospect of joining the 100 Club.
He said: “For me, playing my 100th game for Nigeria in the next round and on a stage as big as the World Cup will be a big achievement.
“Considering all the injuries I have been through this past season and the fact that I had to sacrifice and move to England to get playing time, I think it has been worth it. We are going now into the knock-out stage and we know we have to win to remain in the World Cup.”
